To make it as easy as possible for you to access therapy, I can offer counselling, psychotherapy or coaching almost wherever you are and even if your resources are limited.

I am just an email, a message, or a phone call away, and will respond to you as quickly as I can. If after an initial conversation we feel I am not the right person to help you I will signpost you to someone who I think might be able to do that. And, if we do choose to work together, we have options to accommodate busy lives, remote locations, disabilities, schedules that require flexibility with appointment times, and budgets in the case of students.

  • In my therapy room or outside in the gardens and meadows we have the benefit of tranquil surroundings and the sure knowledge of confidentiality. In the outdoors especially, the proximity to nature brings an enhanced awareness of self and relationship to the eco-system generally. There are many advantages to this traditional face-to-face model of therapy, ranging from simply ‘being’ with each other to the opportunity it presents for interactive and experiential learning.

  • Online therapy via zoom allows for much greater flexibility and accessibility and achieves excellent outcomes especially as this mode of working has grown in familiarity. It is particularly suitable for people with time constraints as it eliminates travelling time to and from the therapy room, for those whose work involves domestic and international travel and who would otherwise miss appointments, and for all people who for other reasons, cannot travel to access the traditional face-to-face mode of therapy. Given the reliance on the internet of this approach, good IT connections are required, and it is also necessary for you to commit to working in a confidential space.

  • Telephone counselling can also achieve good results and is especially appropriate for those who are anxious in social situations, who are not comfortable with IT, and who have left their home for holiday as it allows continuity of therapy across different locations at home and abroad. Your commitment is required to create a confidential space.

At Beyond The Boundary Therapy you will find:

Emotional Support in Times of Challenge

Times of emotional challenge occur throughout life, especially at the transitional points of leaving home, changing jobs, losing a relationship, suffering a bereavement, and other personal tragedies. Professional help to process the emotions we experience during these times can encourage the development of acceptance, endurance, and resilience. I can offer that help through a non-judgemental and supportive relationship. My particular expertise is with people of all ages who are experiencing grief and loss, identity issues, life transition, and the outcomes of trauma. Anxiety, depression, guilt, low self-esteem, shame, and stress are all part and parcel of these personal difficulties.

The Opportunity to Go Beyond the Boundary of the Traditional Therapy Setting

Personal therapy does not have to take place in a closed room and here in Devon I am fortunate to be able to offer those clients who feel they can benefit from the experience of incorporating nature and the outdoors in their therapy journey, that very opportunity.

An Understanding of Life Transition and How to Reach Beyond Immediate Boundaries

Life change, possibly meaning a journey out of one’s comfort zone, can begin as early as teenage years, when faced with choices at GCSE level, A level, and at university/college entrance time. Apart from the need to make such strategic decisions, which can benefit from effective coaching, there may also be a need to attend to the emotional issues surrounding fears of low achievement, and of leaving home, parents and siblings. My support in these circumstances can help in the various transitions facing young people and ameliorate imagined difficulties that serve as blocks to effective visioning of the future.

Changes later in life, from graduation to job, from one job to another, one career to another, and one personal/family role to another, can also seem overwhelming, leading to questions of identity, stagnated thoughts, and an inability to recognise what future personal and professional development is possible. My support at these times can help to liberate those thoughts and emotions, and empower a more blue-sky thinking, bringing greater clarity of imagination, personal confidence, and self-esteem.

How do I do this – What does Integrated Therapy Consist of?

Integrated Therapy is an approach to counselling and psychotherapy that incorporates techniques from several different therapeutic traditions in a mix that suits the moment for each particular client. Getting the right mix is reliant upon a sound relationship between you and myself as the therapist, and for my part, I will work with commitment to you to achieve that secure bond between us for the length of the therapy which will be totally confidential, non-judgemental, and safe.

Integrated therapy may include:

Person-centred and humanistic working, focusing on your feelings as they arise from your own perspective on the world, naming these emotions, and untangling confusion among them, that may stand as obstacles to your personal development as an individual human being.

Working psychodynamically, exploring and acknowledging how events from your past, and quite often your childhood, may have promoted a pattern of behaviour that you don’t understand, may be detrimental to your personal development, and that you wish to change.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, known as CBT, seeking to identify automatic negative thinking that fosters negative behaviour patterns that regularly result in unhappy feelings and poor outcomes, and detract from your personal development.

Working in the Gestalt tradition, creating awareness, exploring instinctual behaviour, waves of experience, and generally adopting creative ways to help your understanding and personal growth.

Solution-Focused Therapy, aiming to find collaboratively, a definite operational response to problems presenting as barriers to personal development.

Existential therapy, accepting that all individuals have anxieties about their own existence, and that these must be acknowledged and managed to build the resilience required to underpin personal growth.
